About Us

The Balmy Studio is a small, family-run furniture studio based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, specialising in handcrafted dining tables, bench seating and custom furniture.

Originally established in 2019, The Balmy Studio began with a passion for creating distinctive, handcrafted furniture. In 2024, the studio entered a new chapter when Bruce and Darcy took over the business, continuing its focus on craftsmanship while bringing their own experience and approach to each piece.

Today, The Balmy Studio is run by father-and-son team Bruce and Darcy. With decades of woodworking experience and Darcy's background as a qualified carpenter, we design and build our furniture together in our Sunshine Coast workshop.

Our pieces are made to order rather than mass produced. From selecting Tasmanian Oak through to shaping, fluting, finishing and final assembly, we're closely involved in every stage of the process. This also gives us the flexibility to customise many of our designs in size, colour and detail to suit an individual space.

We believe furniture should be made to last, feel considered in its surroundings and have the character that comes from being made by hand.

Every piece is made to order in our Sunshine Coast workshop. From selecting and shaping the timber through to fluting, finishing and final assembly, we’re closely involved in every stage of the process.

Working primarily with Tasmanian Oak, we combine traditional woodworking with our distinctive designs to create furniture made for Australian homes.
